Abugida (“Abugida,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a language-learning application and website (together, the “Service”). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

These Terms work together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your information. If there is a conflict between these Terms and any other material we publish about the Service, these Terms govern. You can reach us any time at privacy@abugida.et.

Abugida is built for learners of all ages. If you are a minor in your country, you may use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the Service — including any purchases.

If you create profiles for children in your family group, you confirm that you are their parent or guardian and that you are responsible for their activity in the app.

To save your progress you create an account with an email address and a password. You agree to:

• Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
• Keep your password confidential and not share your account with others.
• Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has used your account.

You are responsible for activity that happens under your account. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings.

Abugida offers a free plan and paid plans. Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring basis — monthly or yearly, depending on the plan you choose — and renew automatically until cancelled.

• Prices — are shown before you buy, in your local currency where available, and may exclude taxes that apply where you live.
• Renewal — happens automatically at the end of each billing period, at the then-current price, unless you cancel beforehand.
• Payment — is handled by our payment processors or by the app store you purchased through. We do not store your full card number.
• Price changes — will be communicated to you in advance and never take effect in the middle of a period you have already paid for.

You can cancel a subscription at any time. Cancellation stops the next renewal; you keep access to paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, you manage and cancel that subscription in the store, and its refund rules apply.

Where we offer a free trial, we will tell you how long it lasts and when billing begins. Except where the law of your country gives you a right to a refund, payments are non-refundable — but if something has gone wrong, write to us and we will try to make it right.

Abugida is a place for learning, and we ask you to keep it that way. You agree not to:

• Break the law, infringe anyone's rights, or harass or harm other learners.
• Copy, scrape, resell, or redistribute our lessons, audio, or artwork.
• Reverse engineer the Service, or interfere with its security, servers, or networks.
• Use bots, scripts, or automation to inflate streaks, points, or leaderboard positions.
• Access the Service through anything other than the interfaces we provide.

The Service — its lessons, exercises, recordings, illustrations, software, name, and logo — belongs to Abugida or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. The Amharic language belongs to everyone; our particular way of teaching it does not.

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own learning. Everything not expressly granted is reserved.

Anything you submit through the Service — a display name, a recording made during a speaking exercise, a support message — remains yours. You grant us the licence we need to host, process, and display it in order to operate the Service and give you your lessons.

If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve Abugida without obligation to you. Please do not send us anything you consider confidential.

Abugida relies on third parties for hosting, payments, analytics, and distribution. Where you obtain the app from an app store, that store's terms also apply to your download and to purchases you make through it. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.

We work to keep Abugida available and improving, and we add, change, and occasionally retire features as courses evolve. We may suspend the Service temporarily for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. Where a change materially reduces what a paid plan offers, we will tell you.

You may stop using Abugida and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, if your use puts other learners or the Service at risk, or if we are required to do so by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put things right.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination — intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law — continue to apply afterwards.

We care a great deal about how well Abugida teaches, but we cannot promise a particular result. Language learning depends on you. The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, and to the extent permitted by law we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

To the extent permitted by law, Abugida will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data or lost profits arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Some countries do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have that cannot be limited by law.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be handled by the courts of Addis Ababa — unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your own country, in which case that right stands.

Before anything formal, please write to us at privacy@abugida.et. Most problems are quicker to solve in an email than in a courtroom.

We may update these Terms as the Service grows or as the law requires. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the Service. Continuing to use Abugida after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
